At least 18 Nigerian students have received scholarships worth over $2 million through an initiative led by music star, Tiwa Savage, in partnership with Berklee College of Music.

The awards were announced at the grand finale of the Berklee in Nigeria programme held in Lagos. The scheme targets young creatives, offering them a chance to study music in Boston, United States. It followed a selection process that drew more than 2,000 applicants, with 120 shortlisted for a four-day training before the final picks.

The selected students will study for three years at Berklee. They trained in performance, songwriting, production and the business side of music during the programme. Faculty members from the school led the sessions.

Savage shared the update on social media, saying: “Over $2 million was awarded to 18 students at the @TSMFOFFICIAL Berklee in Nigeria Grand Finale. This is what building infrastructure is, this is what creating access is. Glory be to God.”

The programme is part of efforts to open doors for African talent. Savage, who studied at Berklee, has said access remains a barrier for many young artists due to high fees. The initiative aims to close that gap and link local talent to global opportunities. (AriseNews TV)
