Amnesty International Nigeria has called on the Delta State Government to ensure those suspected of involvement in the infamous Ozoro ‘raping festival’ are brought to justice through fair trial.

The human rights group made the call in a statement issued on Saturday and shared on Facebook.

Amnesty strongly condemned the incidents captured in viral videos that circulated on social media.

The group noted that no cultural practice or community event can justify the abuse of women or limit their right to move freely and safely in public.

The statement reads, “Amnesty International strongly condemns the harassment, assault, and degrading treatment of women during the Ozoro Festival held on 19 March 2026 in Isoko North LGA of Delta state, Nigeria.

“The government of Delta state @DSGovernment go beyond mere condemnation of the atrocities and ensure that all those suspected of involvement are brought to justice through fair trial. Video evidence of sexual assault of women have gone viral on social media. The incident is shocking.

“No cultural practice or community event can justify the abuse of women or limit their right to move freely and safely in public. Targeting women simply for being outside is wrong and unacceptable.

“Those affected must be given access to adequate medical care, counselling, and justice." (The Sun)
