Peter Obi during a visit to ex-AGF Malami
Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has met with former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, in Abuja.
Last week, Obi expressed concern over the recent arrests and ongoing detention of key leaders from the African Democratic Congress (ADC): former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai.
In a statement, Obi lamented the timing of their arrests, urging the current administration to end the situation.
According to him, the integrity of the rule of law in Nigeria is non-negotiable; “its degradation undermines our economic development and threatens national stability.”
Although details of the meeting could not be ascertained at the time of the report, it may be connected to Malami’s cases with the DSS and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Malami was reportedly released on bail on Monday.
A tweet by ADC Vanguard on its verified ‘X’ handle (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, March 17, said, “HE Peter Obi visited Abubakar Malami SAN to express support regarding his recent experiences with the EFCC, DSS, and subsequent bail by the Federal High Court, FCT.”
“Peter Obi visits former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, 24 hours after his release on bail.”
Malami’s return comes amid ongoing legal proceedings involving the former minister.
He is currently facing two separate cases, including allegations of terrorism financing and illegal firearms possession, as well as an N8.7 billion fraud and money laundering case. (The Nation)
