Social media influencer and philanthropist, Mitchell Mukoro, popularly known as King Mitchy, has publicly apologised following weeks of controversy surrounding her clash with Social media commentator, Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan.
The apology came on Thursday after the influencer posted a video on her Instagram page addressing Nigerians and admitting that her actions during the heated online drama were wrong.
In the video, Mitchy said she had reflected on the incident and was ready to accept responsibility for her conduct.
“Good morning, Nigerians. I am ready to be held accountable for my actions. For some days, I have thought about my behaviour, and I know that I was wrong, and I want to be held accountable,” she said.
She also apologised over a distressing live video in which she appeared to consume a substance believed to be hypo during the height of the controversy.
“For the substance I took on a live video, that was very wrong of me because there are young girls looking up to be me one day, and I know I disappointed a lot of people,” she said.
Mitchy further apologised to individuals whose names became entangled in the controversy, including Seyi Tinubu and the Ooni of Ife.
“And choosing life, that was wrong of me. I was wrong. And my boss, ST, I am so sorry. I know I apologised privately, but I did not disrespect you privately, I disrespected you publicly, so I want to apologise publicly. I am so sorry,” she said.
“And I want you to know that I have never taken your support for granted and I will never take your support for granted.”
She also expressed regret for mentioning the Ooni of Ife during the controversy.
“To the Ooni of Ife, I am so sorry for bringing your name into this. I am so sorry, Daddy,” she said.
Addressing VeryDarkMan directly, Mitchy described him as someone fighting for a better Nigeria and said she now understood his activism.
“And to Verydarkman, my brother, I see what you are fighting for. You are fighting for Nigeria, and we can make Nigeria a better place. I am sorry for coming at you like that. Maybe now I understand you better because I had to stay back and understand the kind of person you are, and I see that you are fighting for a good cause, for Nigeria to be better. You need more supporters, not people to fight you. I am sorry, my brother.”
The apology follows a controversy that began after Mitchy announced that she renovated a dilapidated school within six days in Delta State, presenting the project as proof that meaningful change could happen quickly with genuine commitment.
In one of her posts, she wrote, “I have never seen anyone with integrity explain everyday that he/ she has integrity. I did this in six days to show you how easy it is if you truly want to do something. Lastly, I know a lot of damaged schools. Government teachers even pray for you on top.”
She further alleged, “Yo, this guy planted someone to work at my restaurant to get information but he did not see any tangible thing talk about me.”
The remarks were widely interpreted as a jab at VeryDarkMan, who responded with a series of videos accusing her of being used politically to launder the image of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Tagging the President’s son, Seyi Tinubu, he wrote, “@Seyitinubu YOUR FATHER FIRST 4years failed so bad that ministry of education stopped working, so you need mitchy to renovate schools (CITY BOY MOVEMENT, RTIFN, MITCHYY) these are product of your father’s failures, @officialasiwajubat won’t need michyy and co if his first term was good… THAT POLITICAL TOOL YOU PEOPLE KEPT UNDER THE DEPARTMENT OF D and charity.”
Mitchy responded at the time with a warning, stating, “Bro, I promise you this. The day you come for me will be the beginning of your downfall.”
As the exchanges intensified, VeryDarkMan later alleged that both Mitchy and Seyi Tinubu were threatening his life.
“Nigerians, in respect to what is going on now, they are beginning to threaten my life. Seyi Tinubu and King Mitchy are threatening my life,” he said.
Amid the back and forth, some social media users questioned the extent of the renovation after clips surfaced showing sections of the school building still appearing partially damaged.
In response, Mitchy later shared transaction receipts online indicating that she spent over N1m on the renovation project.
The controversy escalated further after Mitchy appeared visibly distressed during a live video session in which she reportedly consumed a substance believed to be hypo, sparking widespread concern among viewers.
Her management later announced that she had died at Prime Care Hospital in Abuja, a claim that quickly circulated across social media platforms.
However, the hospital swiftly denied the report in a public statement.
“The management of Prime Care Hospitals wishes to inform the public that the announcement of the alleged death of Miss Mukoro Mitchelle, popularly known as King Mitchy, at our facility in Abuja is FALSE. King Mitchy was never a patient in our hospital and did not pass away here,” the hospital said.
It added, “We are working with authorities to investigate the source of this misinformation and will take all necessary legal actions against those responsible. Please verify information through our official channels before sharing.”
The conflicting claims created confusion online before Mitchy’s management later withdrew the earlier announcement and clarified that she was alive.
“Michelle is okay now,” the statement read.
Seyi Tinubu had also earlier denied allegations linking him to the feud.
In a statement posted on Instagram, he explained that his interaction with Mitchy was limited to supporting her charity work.
“I met Mitchy once, in a public setting, alongside others. On that occasion, I provided financial support toward her NGO activities, just as I have supported many young Nigerians and organisations working to empower our people,” he said.
“A follow-up meeting had been scheduled for me to receive an update on the impact of her NGO’s work following the donation. That meeting did not take place because I have been unwell.”
He added, “There has never been a private encounter, no secret arrangement, and no impropriety of any kind.”
Seyi Tinubu also accused VeryDarkMan of dragging his name into a feud he did not start.
“What is deeply concerning is that a feud I did not start, and in which I have played no part, has been used as a vehicle to insert my name into a narrative without basis in truth.
“For reasons best known to him, VDM appears to have been looking for a trigger, an opportunity to attack and attempt to harm my reputation and seized upon this situation to do so. I will not accept that.
“If my name generates attention, let us at least deal in facts. Supporting charitable causes is not a crime. Meeting someone publicly to support their NGO is not a scandal. Repeating falsehoods loudly does not transform them into truth,” added. (Guardian)
