The Nigerian Youth Parliament has unveiled the leadership of its 45 standing committees for the sixth session.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Spokesperson of the Parliament, Hon. Adekunle Akinrinade, on Thursday.
“I am pleased to present the updated list of the leadership of our forty-five (45) standing committees, as earlier announced during our Second Plenary Session by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Idris Zakari,” the statement partly read.
The Speaker urged all committees to carry out their duties in line with the ethics, rules and guiding principles of the Nigerian Youth Parliament.
He also directed that official letterheads be prepared and issued to all committees to ensure coordination.
Zakari further warned that any committee that remains inactive for three consecutive months would have its leadership and membership reviewed.
He also commended the selection committee for its role in ensuring the fair allocation of committee positions.
The statement concluded by thanking members for their continued commitment to the work of the Parliament.
“The Speaker urge all committees to discharge their responsibilities diligently and in strict compliance with the ethics, rules, and guiding principles of the Nigerian Youth Parliament. To ensure uniformity and proper coordination, official letterheads will be prepared and issued to all committees.
“Please note that any committee that remains inactive for a period of three (3) consecutive months will have its leadership and members reviewed, in order to allow capable and committed members who are ready to serve to take over.
“He sent a sincere appreciation to the Selection Committee for their tireless efforts and dedication in ensuring that these committee positions were fairly and appropriately assigned,” the statement added.
The statement also contained the full list of the NYP 6th session leadership of the standing committees, covering key sectors including agriculture, education, health, security, environment, energy, youth development, regional development commissions and other areas of national interest.
It further listed the leadership of the standing committees as follows: the Agricultural Colleges and Institutions Committee is chaired by Hon. Rabiu Nafiu Maizare, with Hon. Joseph Adeneyi as Vice Chairman, while the Agricultural Production Committee is headed by Hon. Adamu Shehu, assisted by Hon. Sahabi Suleiman.
The Anti-Corruption and Good Governance Committee has Hon. Zulaihat Muhammad Waziri as Chairperson and Hon. Fubara Enouch Stephen as Vice Chairman, while the Art, Culture and Creative Economy Committee is chaired by Hon. Henry Abushe, with Hon. Jachimike Okerefor as Vice Chairman. Hon. Abubakar Aliyu Wasagu chairs the Basic and Secondary Education Committee, with Hon. Etsu Magdalene as Vice Chairman, while the Banking, Insurance and Financial Institutions Committee is led by Hon. Abubakar Abbas Song, assisted by Hon. Makinde Iyanuluwa.
Also appointed were Hon. Azikwe Godknows as Chairman of the Customs and Border Control Committee, with Hon. Abdulmumin Aliyu Gusau as Vice Chairman; Hon. Abbas Husain Sukola as Chairman of the Climate Change and National Disaster Committee, with Hon. Maryam Baba as Vice Chairman; and Hon. Sonday Ikokoh Iyanuluwa as Chairperson of the Drugs and Narcotics Committee, assisted by Hon. Jaremia Sabo.
The Diaspora and Conflict Resolutions Committee is chaired by Hon. Sandra Sale Pam, with Hon. Joseph Frank as Vice Chairman, while the Developmental Partners and NGOs Committee is led by Hon. Zarah Alim Bakari, assisted by Hon. Khadija Musa Sabuwa.
Others include Hon. Chibuke Kas Obiwuzie as Chairman of the Environment Committee, with Hon. Ikhili Eziegbe as Vice Chairman; Hon. Japhet Kineze as Chairman of the FCT Committee, with Hon. Blessing Nikyraw as Vice Chairman; and Owolabi Dawud as Chairman of the HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Control Committee, with Hon. Sandra Sale Pam as Vice Chairman.
The Health Committee is chaired by Hon. Morayo Ituolu, with Hon. Mary Faith C. as Vice Chairman, while the Justice and Legal Matters Committee is headed by Hon. Thelma Obandia Oyindamola, assisted by Hon. Vivian Isong.
The Labour, Employment and Productivity Committee has Hon. Justus Onyakare as Chairman and Hon. Nelson Wilson as Vice Chairman, while the National Orientation Committee is chaired by Hon. Onisoman Kos-Ika, with Hon. Victor Oluwaseun Levels as Vice Chairman. Hon. Fatima Tijjani heads the Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Committee, assisted by Hon. Chawal Gregory, while the Power Committee is chaired by Hon. Emmanuel Onu, with Hon. Ibrahim Sabo as Vice Chairman.
In the petroleum sector, Hon. Victor Kajue chairs the Petroleum Downstream Committee, with Hon. Usman Gwaizam as Vice Chairman, while the Petroleum Upstream Committee is led by Hon. Nabil Aliyu Daneji, assisted by Hon. Fatima Garba Abdul’azeez. Hon. Auwal Machina chairs the Rural and Social Development Committee, with Hon. Precious Mutum as Vice Chairman, while the Science and Technology Committee is headed by Hon. Augustine Adiele, assisted by Hon. Rais Umar.
Further appointments include Hon. Chiamaka Aniakor as Chairperson of the SDGs and Community Development Committee, with Hon. Anisere Peters as Vice Chairman; Hon. Alyasa Aliyu as Chairman of the Sports Development Committee, with Hon. Suleiman Sahabi as Vice Chairman; and Hon. Zaruku Isa Moriki as Chairman of the Solid Minerals Committee, assisted by Hon. Lois Istifanus Embakusa.
The TETFUND Committee is chaired by Hon. Nelson Wilson, with Hon. Ahmad Gambo Mashi as Vice Chairman, while the Trade and Investment Committee is led by Hon. Thomas Asogwa Chinemeram, assisted by Hon. Timothy Foga.
Also listed were Hon. Fatima Bukar Lamisula as Chairperson of the Women Affairs and Gender Equality Committee, with Hon. Fatima Garba Abdul’azeez as Vice Chairman; Hon. Ayisat Hamzat Oluwaseun as Chairperson of the Youth Development and Talent Hunt Committee, assisted by Hon. Fakiya Foluso; and Hon. Sadiq Ibrahim Aliyu as Chairman of the Federal Character Committee, with Hon. Faruk Siyi as Vice Chairman. The PWDs Committee is chaired by Hon. Victor Oluwaseun Levels, with Hon. Sharfuddeen Aliyu Chul as Vice Chairman.
The Housing and Urban Development Committee is led by Hon. Ojo T. Kayode, with Hon. Abbas Husain Sukola as Vice Chairman, while the Water Resources Committee is chaired by Hon. Edikan Udofah, assisted by Hon. Usman Gwaizam. Hon. Abubakar Yusuf heads the NASENI Committee, with Hon. Adamu Shehu as Vice Chairman.
Regional development commissions were also constituted, with Hon. Ahmad Gambo Mashi and Hon. Hauwa Abubakar leading the North West Development Commission Committee; Hon. Faruk Abdulrazak and Hon. Rejoice Nelson heading the North East Development Commission Committee; Hon. Saleh Zalwan and Hon. Mariyam Bature for the North Central Development Commission Committee; Hon. Ayomide Olanipekun and Hon. Adekunle Akinrinade for the South West Development Commission Committee; Hon. Chibuzo Emmanuel and Hon. Idike Favour Chisimidri for the South East Development Commission Committee; Hon. Fubara Enouch Stephen and Hon. Vivian Isong for the Niger Delta Development Commission Committee; and Hon. Akan Etienam and Hon. Wilfred Enebeli for the South South Development Commission Committee.
The Gas Resources Committee is chaired by Hon. Deborah Aku, with Hon. Ogunsola Femi Opeyemi as Vice Chairman, while the NCDC Committee is led by Hon. Akinnola Oguntomoni, assisted by Hon. Kosi Osili. (TRIBUNE)
