PresidentChief Executive of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote
Dangote Industries Limited has issued a warning over rising cases of impersonation and fraudulent activities by individuals falsely claiming to represent the company, its executives, or members of the Dangote family.
In a statement shared on the company’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, the management said, “Dangote Industries Limited has become aware of increasing cases of impersonation and fraudulent activities carried out by individuals falsely claiming to represent the company, its leadership, and members of the Dangote family.”
The statement emphasised that these impostors are using fake investment offers, business proposals, charity solicitations, employment promises, and other schemes to defraud the public.
“For the avoidance of doubt, neither Dangote Industries Limited, nor its Group President, Aliko Dangote, nor any executive including the Group Executive Director, Commercial Operations (Oil & Gas), or members of the Dangote family—Fatima Aliko Dangote, Mariya Aliko Dangote, and Halima Aliko Dangote—solicit funds, investments, contracts, or personal information from individuals via WhatsApp, X, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, or any other social media platform,” the company said.
DIL clarified further, “In fact, they do not have Facebook and TikTok accounts.”
The company reiterated, “Under no circumstances do the company’s executives initiate direct contact with private individuals through social media channels for financial transactions, business opportunities, or personal requests.”
Members of the public were strongly advised to disregard any unsolicited messages, calls, or social media accounts claiming affiliation with DIL or its executives.
“All official communications from the company are disseminated strictly through verified corporate channels and recognised media platforms,” the statement noted.
Dangote Industries also reassured the public that it is working closely with relevant security and law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute those behind these fraudulent schemes. “Dangote Industries Limited remains committed to protecting its brand integrity and the safety of Nigerians,” the company said.
The statement concluded with a direct call to action: “Anyone who receives suspicious communications is encouraged to report such incidents to the appropriate authorities immediately.” (PUNCH)
