The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested suspected cattle rustlers, motorcycle thieves and drug dealers in separate operations across the state, recovering a vehicle, motorcycles, illicit drugs and livestock.
Police spokesman, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, said the arrests were part of efforts by Commissioner of Police Dahiru Muhammad to strengthen security.
He said, “On February 15, 2026, a patrol team in Hadejia intercepted a dark green Golf 3 vehicle along Hadejia/Kano Road. The vehicle, driven by Adamu Sani Ya’u with Musa Abdullahi as passenger, was suspected of having been used in transporting stolen livestock. Officers reportedly found animal droppings, hair, rope, suspected Indian hemp, a Rizler, a blanket and an extra number plate inside the vehicle. The suspects are being investigated at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Dutse.”
In the Taura Local Government Area, he said criminals blocked a road and robbed a resident of his motorcycle. The bike was later recovered through intelligence-led operations.
“Detectives in Birnin Kudu also arrested three suspected motorcycle thieves and recovered a Bajaj motorcycle. Another unregistered motorcycle was recovered in Hadejia after a suspect fled on sighting police.
“In a separate case, police recovered a stolen bull and arrested a suspect linked to cattle theft and a culpable homicide case. The command also raided criminal hideouts and seized 1,568 pieces of illicit drugs, arresting several suspects across different local government areas,” he said. (Daily Trust)
