The Lagos State Chairman, Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Contributory Pension Scheme (NUPCPS), Comrade Michael Omisande, has said that if by the end of March 2026, the Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC) could not determine the cost of implementing the accrued increase and pay all outstanding it is owning its members, pensioners will be forced to embark on a protest to press home their demand.

Speaking on Friday during the commemoration of the associations Open Congress day, Omisande encouraged all pensioners to be ready to make sacrifices by preparing for a mother of protest soon, disclosing that 60 of its members who retired from Lagos State University of Education, Ijanikin, between 2023 and now have not been paid out of which 30 have died, leaving their families in abject poverty.

“On May 27, 2025, the governor invited the pension union leaders to his office at Alausa, where he promised that as soon as he sees the template used by the Federal Government, he will do the needful.

The governor received the template on January 12, 2026, minuted it to the DG of LASPEC for cost implication, but till February 27, LASPEC is still foot-dragging on the template; he does not know what to do on the template. (The Guardian)
