ADC Presidential frontrunner, Peter Obi
By BONIFACE AKARAH
The Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) has linked Tuesday’s gun attack on the convoy of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential frontrunner, Peter Obi, to what it described as an earlier threat allegedly made by Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo.
In a press statement signed by its spokesman, Ibrahim Umar, on February 24, 2026, POMR called on Nigerians and international democratic observers to “take note of the alarming threats made in July 2025” by the governor, who it said had warned Obi against entering Edo State without permission.
The media outfit stated that the alleged warning was issued following Obi’s charitable visit to a health institution in the state, adding that although the governor later refuted the statement, it “highlights a troubling pattern.”
POMR further stressed that the 2023 Labour Party Presidential Candidate, as a presidential aspirant, reserves the constitutional right to move freely across the country.
“We firmly reiterate that, as a presidential aspirant, Mr Obi is entitled to freely travel and associate within Nigeria, as protected by Section 41 of our Constitution,” the statement read.
It added: “Attempts to restrict this right will not be tolerated.”
The statement comes in the wake of the reported attack on Obi’s convoy in Benin, which POMR had earlier confirmed, assuring supporters that the former Anambra State Governor and other ADC leaders present in Edo State were unharmed.
