FRSC officials at the scene of the accident
No fewer than six persons, including a pregnant woman and five undergraduate nursing students, have died in a fatal road crash at the Kwara end of the Ilorin–Ogbomoso highway.
The accident occurred on Monday in the Ote area of Kwara State. Some of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while others reportedly died while receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
Sources said the affected students were undergraduates of a higher institution in Oyo State. The victims, all 500-level students, were enrolled in an Open and Distance Learning Bachelor of Nursing Science programme.
They were said to be travelling for their second semester examinations when the crash occurred.
Confirming the incident on Tuesday, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Oyo State Command, Mrs Rosemary Alo, said the accident took place in the Ote area at the Kwara end of the road.
“Our men are working in collaboration with the Kwara state Command to restore normalcy on the highway”, she noted, promising to make more details available later. (The Nation)
