Nnamdi Kanu’s kinsmen, the people of Etitinabu Na Ndagbo community in Afaraukwu, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, have pleaded with President Bola Tinubu to urgently release their son, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The community made the plea yesterday during a press briefing, which followed a solemn assembly of the people held at the Ugwu Ugba ancestral village square, where they deliberated about the travails of their son.

Addressing newsmen at the village square, Professor Udochukwu Ogbonna said the continued incarceration of Kanu has been causing deep emotional distress to his immediate family and the entire community at large.

“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is our cherished son, whose continued incarceration has caused deep emotional distress to his immediate family and to our people at large”, the community said.

“On a final note, we call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to listen to our plea today and extend a hand of love to us by releasing Maxi Nnamdi Kenneth Okwu-Kanu,” he said.

Others who spoke, including Professor Leo Obinna, Ikechukwu Ndubueze, Mrs Victoria Ngozi Orjinanta, lamented the continued incarceration of Kanu.

Describing Kanu as peace loving and law-abiding, they wondered why some other people including Sunday Igboho, who committed the same acclaimed offence as Kanu should be allowed to roam the streets, while their son is held perpetually.

The people promised that Nnamdi Kanu if released unconditionally would continue to conduct himself as a law-abiding citizen, stressing that his freedom will help in stability of the Southeast.

Kanu’s kinsmen thanked Governor Alex Otti, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe and House of Representatives member, Obi Aguocha, for their efforts at ensuring their son was released.

They called for a compassionate review of Kanu’s matter to enable his release and reunion with his family and community.

A 99-year-old woman from the community, Serah Oparaocha, joined others in calling for Kanu’s release. (The Sun)
