Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu
The All Progressives Congress in Delta State on Saturday denied reports of an attack on the member representing Ethiope Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, describing the claim as media sensationalism.
The party also dismissed allegations of violence and parallel executives arising from its just-concluded local government congress in Ethiope West Local Government Area and other parts of the state.
In a statement signed by the state Publicity Secretary of the party, Valentine Onojeghuo, and made available to journalists in Asaba, the party insisted that there was no breach of peace anywhere in the state during the congress.
Onojeghuo maintained that the congress was conducted strictly in line with the party’s constitution and guidelines approved by its National Working Committee, describing the exercise as peaceful, orderly and rancour-free.
“There were no parallel congresses anywhere in Delta State. Those peddling such reports are living in self-denial and seeking relevance through deliberate distortion of facts. The APC structure in Delta State is intact, cohesive and fully integrated.
“Since 2014, this is the first time our party has successfully conducted congresses across Delta State in such a peaceful manner,” he stated.
Onojeghuo said officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission monitored the process, which he noted underscored its transparency and credibility.
The spokesman lauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for what he described as improved unity within the party, adding that there were no reports of violence in Ethiope Federal Constituency or any other part of the state.
“The era of impunity, exclusion and divisive politics is over. What we have today is a broad-based and inclusive structure that accommodates both longstanding members and new entrants,” he added.
The party congratulated newly elected executives across the 25 local government areas and reaffirmed its commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
It urged members to close ranks and support the executives, stressing that the Delta APC remains united and prepared for future political engagements. (Sunday PUNCH)
