Troops of the Joint Task Force Southeast (JTF SE) Operation UDO KA achieved another operational success by quickly responding to a distress call at about 6:55 a.m. on February 20, 2026, at the 9th Mile axis, within the 82 Division Area of Responsibility.
The distress call reported a suspected IPOB/ESN attack on commuters heading to Anambra State.
With exceptional vigilance and combat readiness, troops mobilised immediately to confront the criminals.
Upon arrival, the troops engaged the armed elements decisively, using superior firepower and tactical manoeuvres.
The swift and aggressive response caused the criminals to abandon their captives and flee into the surrounding bushes. As a result, five kidnapped victims were successfully rescued unharmed, and their vehicle was recovered intact, dealing a significant blow to the criminal network in the area.
After the operation, troops sustained aggressive patrols and area domination to prevent regrouping, track fleeing suspects and deny criminal elements any freedom of action.
This sustained presence has reinforced public confidence, reassured commuters, and further degraded the operational capabilities of hostile actors across the sector.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has re affirmed its resolute and unyielding commitment to safeguarding lives, securing critical routes and dismantling all criminal and terrorist networks in the Southeast.
The army urged citizens to continue providing timely and credible information to security forces, as collective vigilance and cooperation remain critical enablers in achieving lasting peace, stability and security across the region. (Guardian)
