Popular Tik Toker Mirabel
A few days after popular Tik Toker Mirabel cried out in an online video that she was raped, lacerated with razor blade and she drank a poisonous substance, her story has sparked controversy. Some people accused her of making false claims while others said she has since been arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command for spreading false narratives about herself, reports KUNLE AKINRINADE.
A claim made by Tik Toker Mirabel on her social media post during the week to the effect that he was raped has sparked serious controversy. In her account of the incident posted on her social media handle on Monday, identified as Mirabel (@mirab351 on TikTok), Mirabel had said the incident occurred on Sunday, February 15. In her post on Monday, she said she had been unable to sleep, drank alcohol around 6 a.m. and later heard a knock on her door at about 9 a.m.
She said: “I got raped yesterday in my own apartment, February 15th, in the morning. I have insomnia. If I’m not drunk or high, I can’t sleep. So, on Saturday, I drank, and like it wasn’t working, but I needed to be high enough so I could sleep. My eyes were tired, but I couldn’t sleep.
“I slept until around 6 a.m., and around 9 a.m., I heard a knock on my door. I thought maybe it was one of my neighbours because it’s Sunday morning. Most of them would have gone to church. Maybe one of them wants to ask for something.
“I stood up. I was having a drink. I was still drunk. I was still drunk, and I was having a drink. Immediately, I opened the door. I got pushed back.
“Before I got to my door, there was my fridge and a few steps forward, there was my door. I hit my head on the door because I couldn’t, like, I got pushed back. I hit my head on the fridge. I passed out.
“When I opened my eyes, there was a man over me. There were clothes stuffed in my mouth and tied.
“There is a man over me, there is cloth stuffed in my mouth, I was just there mumbling, it is Sunday, most people had gone to church. Later, he left. I was bleeding. He used a face blade to cut me.”
Mirabel further stated that she was frightened and could barely speak clearly. She said she had hoped a neighbour might hear her, but no one came to her aid.
“But when I felt like it’s been over 20 minutes and I’ve just been mumbling and struggling, there’s nothing I could do, because I didn’t even know this person to begin with. I just stayed there.
“Then later on, I was bleeding, and I didn’t understand why I was bleeding. I thought I got my period, but the person texted me.
“It turns out this person saw that a face bled (sic) into my body and cut me so I could bleed. He said he was trying to simulate me being the first person that I could sleep with.
“He sent me a text. I don’t know how to read it, but I’ll post it after this video. I’m so sorry.
“I’ve had everything little with me, and I’m so sorry I can’t deal with it all. I don’t know how to react. I can’t deal with it anymore.
“Everything is happening to me. I’m sorry. I’ve been suicidal from the start. I’m so sorry. I can’t deal with it anymore. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”
Rapist text
Mirabel said she later received a request message from a man identified as Priston, who allegedly confessed to the attack.
Priston’s message reads: “I’m sure you don’t know me because you decided to close your eyes even after waking up. We have met twice, and you kept ignoring me. I had to pay boys to stop the empty bike. You complimented the way I speak, and you said I smell nice, but you still refuse to give me your number.”
According to Mirabel’s account, the suspected attacker further described the assault and issued threats.
“My father has the money to bury the case right before it gets to court. You can’t find me, and you don’t even have the money…
“In the nearest future, maybe 4 to 5 years, we would meet again and we would date.
“I love you, don’t see me as a bad person, okay, you turned me down twice,” Mirabel quoted the attacker as saying in her account.
However, in another video posted on her Tik-Tok page on Tuesday, Mirabel explained that she had been rescued by friends and taken to the hospital.
In the footage, she apologised to everyone, including her Tik-Tok followers, for attempting to take her life.
“I took a sniper yesterday, and my friend came back and saw me in the backyard and took me to the hospital. Thank you for trying to reach out to me. Thank you for calling me.
“My phone is in DND, and I can’t text. I’m so sorry. Thank you so much. I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry. Maybe when I get better, I will start replying to messages bit by bit.”
Neighbours fault rape claims
However, a few hours after Mirabel came out to say she was raped by a stranger in her apartment, some of her neighbours faulted her story.
An unnamed male neighbor, during a live Tik-Tok session online post, said: “No one dared enter our gate to do such a thing.
“The funniest part is that last week Thursday she told us that her mum died and she was crying. We had to donate N2000 each to her because she said she didn’t have money to go to their village.
“I later found out on her page that her mom had died since July last year and was buried in August.
“She also said no neighbour was home on Sunday when the incident happened. We were home and nothing of such happened.
“She claimed she drank Sniper and was taken to the hospital, but we saw her when she was leaving the compound yesterday morning and she walked perfectly (someone who drank Sniper and said a blade was used to cut her open).
“It was a guy that came to pick her. Let her present a certified medical report that she was r@ped and she drank sniper.”
Another female neighbour who joined the Tik Tok session said: “We saw Mirable when she was leaving the compound. She was walking perfectly and she wore baggy jeans; someone came to pick her up.”
Rape claims valid — Police
The spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, explained that a preliminary investigation conducted on the case revealed the alleged rape was carried out in Ogijo area of Ogun State.
Responding to an inquiry sent by our correspondent to his whatsapp wall on Thursday, Babaseyi said: “The Ogun State Police Command, upon receiving information about the incident, directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ibafo Division, to immediately reach out to the victim.
“She was able to report at the Ibafo Police Station today, where the facts of the case were obtained. Preliminary findings revealed that the alleged act was committed within the Ogijo jurisdiction.”
Babaseyi further explained that Mirabel was taken to a medical facility for proper treatment, contrary to speculations about her arrest for false allegations.
“She was promptly escorted to a medical facility for assessment and urgent attention.
“Following preliminary treatment, she was conveyed to the Ogijo Police Station, the jurisdiction where the incident occurred, for proper documentation and continuation of investigative procedures.”
He added: “Given her fragile condition, the victim has since been referred for extensive medical care to aid her recovery and to support the ongoing investigation.
“The Command remains fully committed to ensuring her safety, wellbeing, and the diligent pursuit of justice in this matter.’’ (The Nation)
