The Lagos State Police Command said it has arrested and detained some policemen over the fatal shooting of two passersby along AIT Road, Alagbado area of the state on Friday.
Command spokesman, CSP Abimbola Adebisi disclosed this in an X post on Friday evening.
It was learnt that some policemen chasing suspected internet fraudsters, better known as yahoo boys, shot at their vehicle but accidentally hit two passersby.
An X user, @YemiFirstSon said the incident occurred around 5:30 pm on Friday.
He alleged that the policemen bolted after hitting the passersby instead of rushing them to a nearby hospital.
He wrote, “At 5:30pm thereabouts, police officers attached to AIT division police station on stop and search duty along MRS filling station, Old Otta Road attempted to stop a vehicle and shot at the tyres.
“While trying to shoot again, they shot at 2 passengers on a bike passing by and ran away immediately, leaving the unconscious victims without aid until they gave up the ghost as they couldn’t get help.”
The X user said a video of the lifeless bodies of the victims was too gory to post.
Reacting, the Lagos police command said, “The officers involved in the unfortunate shooting incident that occurred today in Alagbado have been arrested and taken into custody.
“The Commissioner of Police has ordered a thorough and intensive investigation into the incident, as well as the adequate deployment of personnel to forestall any breakdown of law and order. Normalcy has been restored to the area.
“The Command assures the good people of Lagos State that justice will be served and the outcome of the investigation will be made public in due course.” The Sun)
