The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has condemned in strong terms an alleged plot to carry out terrorist attacks on residents of Ira, Inaja, Aho and other communities in Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
A threat letter reportedly dropped at the Ira market warned of impending attacks by unidentified assailants.
In a statement, Gani Adams said the threat had heightened tension across the affected Kwara communities, leaving residents apprehensive about their safety and daily activities.
The Yoruba generalissimo described the situation as alarming and urged the Federal Government, the Kwara State Government and security agencies to take immediate and proactive steps to prevent any attack.
“I urge the Federal Government and the state government to intensify security measures, enhance intelligence sharing, and deploy adequate resources to prevent these attacks and protect innocent lives,” he said.
He also called on security agencies including the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps as well as other relevant paramilitary bodies in the Southwest, to intensify patrols and surveillance in Ira and neighbouring communities.
According to him, intelligence reports available to his office indicate that terrorist groups may be planning coordinated attacks aimed at causing casualties, spreading fear and destabilising parts of the Southwest.
He described the alleged plans as unacceptable and a grave threat to the safety and wellbeing of residents.
While condemning the threat, Adams urged residents of the affected communities to remain vigilant and united.
“It is imperative that we collaborate closely with security agencies and relevant authorities to identify and promptly report any suspicious activities.
“The safety and security of Yoruba-speaking communities in Kwara and Kogi states are paramount. We must work together to ensure peace prevails and that those who seek to disrupt our harmony are brought to justice,” he said. (Nigerian Tribune)
