THE Ogun State Police Command yesterday said it had commenced an investigation into the alleged sexual assault of a TikTok user identified simply as Mirabel.
Mirabel’s post went viral on Monday after she alleged on the social media platform that she was sexually molested on Sunday, February 15, 2026, by a man who later sent her a message boasting about the act.
According to her account, she woke up with a hangover on Sunday, explaining that she drinks before going to bed due to insomnia. She said she went to sleep around 6:00 a.m. and heard knocks on her door at about 9:00 a.m. Believing it was her neighbour, she approached the door but was suddenly pushed, hit her head on a fridge and lost consciousness.
She alleged that when she regained consciousness, she found a piece of cloth in her mouth and was crying and mumbling for help, but no one heard her as her neighbours had gone to church.
Mirabel said she became fully conscious about 20 minutes later and noticed she was bleeding, initially thinking it was her menstrual flow.
On Monday, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency called for more information after the video went viral. However, the agency later withdrew from the matter as the Ogun State Police Command commenced an investigation.
Providing an update, the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, said that upon receiving information about the incident, the Command directed the Divisional Police Officer of the Ibafo Division to contact her immediately.
“She was able to report at the Ibafo Police Station today (Tuesday), where the facts of the case were obtained. Preliminary findings revealed that the alleged act was committed within the Ogijo area of Sagamu Local Council,” she said.
Odutola added that the victim was promptly escorted to a medical facility for assessment and urgent attention. Following preliminary treatment, she was conveyed to the Ogijo Police Station, the jurisdiction where the incident reportedly occurred, for proper documentation and continuation of investigative procedures.
“Given her fragile condition, the victim has since been referred for further medical care to aid her recovery and support the ongoing investigation.
“The command remains fully committed to ensuring her safety, wellbeing, and the diligent pursuit of justice in this matter,” she added. (The Guardian)
