Muslims observe Sahur and Iftar in line with local Ramadan timings
According to projections based on moon sighting, Ramadan is expected to begin on 18th February, 2026. Ramadan is the holy month of fasting for Muslims across the globe. This is the month Muslims become more devoted to good deeds (Ibadāh) to please Allāh.
It’s pertinent to say that in Islam, there are rules and regulations that guide the code and conduct of fasting Muslims during the month of Ramadan. Part of the guidelines is appropriately adhering to the time of Sahur and Iftar in your locality or city where you reside.
According to Quran 2:187 of the glorious Qur’an, Allāh specifically enjoined Muslims to eat, drink, and also break their fasts within a specific timeframe.
“…And eat and drink until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread [of night]. Then complete the fast until night [i.e., sunset].”
According to this Quranic verse, it’s important to strictly abide by the time for Sahur and Iftar in order not to invalidate your fasts. Due to geographical locations, the time for Sahur and Iftar varies from one place to another.
In this article, Tribune Online brings to you the updated 2026 Ramadan calendar showing the Sahur and Iftar times of different cities in the country. From the calendar, the Sahur and Iftar times of some major cities in the country, such as Lagos, Abuja, Kano, and Ibadan.

Therefore, it’s necessary to keep checking the updated Ramadan calendar for subsequent days. This is because the time for Sahur and Iftar isn’t the same throughout Ramadan.
While the time might be the same for a couple of days, it’ll slightly vary on other days. So, you should always check the updated timings both in your local Masjid and the updated Ramadan calendar for 2026. (Nigerian Tribune)
