BSEMA Executive Secretary, Dr James Iorpuu
By EMMANUEL ANTSWEN
The Benue Government on Thursday said it has replaced the ten motorcycles that were stolen during the armed attacks at Anwase and Abande communities in Kwande Local Government Area (LGA).
Dr James Iorpuu, Executive Secretary (ES), Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA), made the disclosure at the agency’s monthly distribution of relief materials in Makurdi.
Iorpuu, who is also the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, said that the government, through the agency, had procured the motorcycles and would hand them over to the affected locals on Monday.
The executive secretary explained that since the beginning of the recent attacks at Anwase and Abande, the agency had been on the ground providing various humanitarian interventions.
He said the monthly distribution of relief materials to victims of attacks and other disasters in the state was the government’s commitment to alleviating the plight of citizens who were in distress in the state.
“This intervention is not merely about distributing relief materials.
“It is about restoring hope, reaffirming dignity, and demonstrating that government remains responsive to the needs of its people, especially the most vulnerable among us.
“Under the purposeful and compassionate leadership of Gov. Alia, the Benue Government has continued to prioritise humanitarian response, safe return, and sustainable resettlement of displaced persons,” he said.
Iorpuu said the items distributed include essential food commodities to address immediate nutritional needs, as well as non-food items aimed at improving living conditions in the camps and host communities.
“We are mindful that while relief materials do not replace lost homes and livelihoods, they provide critical support and temporary stability as we work toward durable solutions.
“Let me assure all stakeholders that this distribution process is guided by transparency, accountability, and fairness.
“Beneficiary data has been carefully verified to ensure that assistance reaches those genuinely affected. Every item released is intended strictly for the IDPs,” he said.
He listed items for distribution to include rice, beans, gari, sugar, salt, mats, groundnut oil, red oil, tom brown, clothes, Maggi, etc. (NAN)
