A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nelson Ahamefula Akuma, has said that the reason for the refusal of real time election results transmission is because the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) knows that Nigerians would reject them if a free, fair and credible election is conducted in the country.

Reacting Tuesday to the #Occupy National Assembly, Akuma said that he is in total support of the occupation of the National Assembly until real time results transmission is made mandatory in our elections.

According to him, the overwhelming APC members in the National Assembly know very well that the party has not delivered on its campaign promises and that Nigerians are even worse off now than when the current administration came on board about three years.

He said that it is because of this realization that they are deliberately frustrating the inclusion of real-time electronic transmission of election results in the on –going amendment of the Electoral Act.

Akuma said that the ruling party with 30 state governors in their kitty and 85 senators is still afraid of free, fair and credible election.

Speaking further, he said that the protest in the National Assembly complex is very important because refusal to allow mandatory electronic transmission benefits the ruling party and the sitting government, adding that is the main reason why they don’t want it to be included in the electoral act.

He said that the ruling party was founded on propaganda, lies and half-truths, but they have realized that Nigerians are now wiser, the more reason they are refusing electronic transmission of results.

He wondered why the Senate should be the problem of the Nigerian people since the provision has already being passed by the House of Representatives.

According to him, one of the many advantages of real –time results transmissions is that it reduces human interference and therefore ensures credibility.

“When people say that 2027 general election will be a walk over, I always have a good laugh. Imagine a party that has 30 out the 36 state governors, 85 out of the 109 senators is still afraid of free and fair election. 2027 general election is going to be between the ruling party and the Nigerian people who they have impoverished. APC has realized that their lies and half-truths are not being bought by the masses. That is the reason why they are refusing real-time transmission of results because they want to continue with the manipulation of election results at the collation centres.” Akuma said.
