Aftermath of terrorist attack in Kaiama, Kwara State
The National Coalition Against Mass Killings, Extra-Judicial Killings, Mob Actions and Impunity (NCAMKI) has expressed concern over the persistent wave of mass killings, terrorist attacks, mob violence and unchecked impunity across Nigeria.
The group said the recent killings in Kaiama Local Council of Kwara State, reportedly preceded by repeated warnings from residents, reflect a recurring national pattern in which communities raise alarms but authorities fail to act, leaving citizens exposed to violence.
According to the coalition, similar incidents across several states have heightened fears that insecurity and impunity are becoming normalised, while the growing incidence of extra-judicial killings and mob actions signals declining public confidence in state protection and justice systems.
NCAMKI noted that recent calls by Southern governors and other stakeholders for the prosecution of perpetrators of the Kwara killings were encouraging but stressed that condemnations and post-incident visits must be complemented by proactive protection, accountability and sustained civic engagement.
The coalition called on civil society actors, professionals, faith leaders, community organisers, legal practitioners, media professionals and other citizens to participate in coordinated national efforts to confront mass violence and impunity.
It added that it is strengthening its organisational framework to operate across states and communities, inviting interested Nigerians to join its advocacy, monitoring and stakeholder engagement initiatives aimed at preventing violence, amplifying early warnings and demanding accountability.
