The Nigerian Police
The Osun State Police Command has arraigned the Imam of Ummu Haani Adigun Memorial Central Mosque, Abdulgafar Sakariyah, 51, and four others over the death of a worshipper, Ahmed Najeem.
The Imam, alongside the four other suspects – Kosamotu Hakeem, 50; Folorunso Mukaila, 57; Sakariyau Hafeez, 45; and Abdulwasiu Olatunji, 29, appeared before Magistrate A. Daramola.
In the ex parte motion, the applicant prayed the court to remand the respondents to a correctional centre pending legal advice from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
An affidavit deposed to in support of the motion by Inspector Bashir Sulaiman, attached to the Homicide section, state CID Osogbo, said, “That on the 30th of January 2026, at about 06:15 am, at Ummu Haani Adigun Memorial Central Mosque Osogbo, Osun state, One late Ahmed Najeem ‘m’ enters the above-named central mosque and forcefully collected the microphone from the Imam during the morning Prayer (Subuhi), in an attempt to hit the Imam with the microphone standing, he was beaten to death by the respondents.
“That, according to the Administration of Criminal Justice Laws of Osun State 2018 and Order of this Honourable court, is needed to remand the respondent in a correctional centre pending the outcome of legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
“That, except the application is granted, there is no other way to remand the respondent in Correctional Centre pending the outcome of legal advice from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.”
The court granted the order, and the defendants were remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre until February 24, 2026. (The Guardian)
