Barau, Ganduje
APC crisis deepens in Kano as Barau and Ganduje factions clash over party leadership in Kano Municipal.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has been thrown into deeper crisis following a clash between factions loyal to Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje over party leadership supremacy.
The dispute escalated after Mutari Ishaq, a Ganduje-backed party leader in Kano Municipal Local Government Area, was reportedly removed by a group of party stakeholders.
At a stakeholders’ meeting attended by representatives from the 13 wards in the local government and other party leaders, a unanimous decision was said to have been taken to expel Ishaq from the party.
The meeting, convened on Sunday, was initially aimed at fostering unity and strengthening internal cohesion between the Ganduje-led faction and the Barau-aligned group.
However, tensions flared when both factions failed to agree on a common negotiation platform and instead held separate meetings at different venues, underscoring the deepening rift within the party.
The Ganduje faction reportedly met with party leaders including the APC Chairman of Kano Municipal, Alhaji Sani Abubakar Mai Fata Sharada, Muntari Ishaq Yakasai, Baffa Babba Dan’agundi, Engr. Sagir Koki, Hon. Salim Hashim Gwangwazo, Nura Hussain, Hon. Nabil Sarki Daneji, Hon. Ibrahim Kankarofi and Hon. Kabiru Labour.
Meanwhile, members loyal to Barau Jibrin were said to have held a parallel meeting at Sultanate Suite, led by Hon. Salisu Maje Ahmed Gwangwazo, Malam Ibrahim Kankarofi, Hon. Fa’izu Alfindiki, Hon. Dan Bello, Alhaji Hamza Darma and Barrister Faruk Iya Sambo.
Reports also indicated that supporters of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf aligned with the Ganduje faction during deliberations, where strategies and resolutions concerning the future of the party were discussed.
Kano Municipal Local Government Area, one of the most populous in the state with a large voter base, has increasingly become a strategic battleground for political control ahead of future elections. (AriseNews TV)
