ARMED HERDSMEN MOVING WITH THEIR CATTLES
A vigilante officer was killed following a clash with suspected Fulani herders along the Koro-Ogbe road, leading to Kogi State, the Kwara State Police Command reported.
It was reported that on Feb. 9 at about 1:00 p.m., vigilantes from Koro, acting on intelligence that Fulani men were seen with cattle in the bush, mobilized with forest guards to investigate. In the process, they were reportedly ambushed by about seven Fulani men.
One Samuel Omotosho, an adult male from Koro Town, was shot dead. His service rifle, with registration number (316) 56-1 6251622 and 15 rounds of ammunition, was recovered intact. The vigilantes abandoned their motorcycles during the attack, and the assailants set seven motorcycles ablaze.
Army troops, police and local vigilantes were deployed to comb the surrounding area in search of the suspects.
The victim’s body was taken to the hospital where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor. Investigation into the incident is ongoing. (Zagazola, but headline rejigged))
