Rainfall
Abuja residents on Monday evening welcomed relief from weeks of intense heat as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) recorded its first rainfall of 2026.The brief shower, which began around 5:11 p.m. and ended by 5:41 p.m., was felt across several areas, including Lugbe, Jabi, and Life Camp. The rainfall offered temporary respite from rising temperatures, which had been worsened by unstable power supply.The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a mix of sunshine and cloudiness across the country from Monday to Wednesday. In its outlook released on Sunday, the agency predicted predominantly sunny and cloudy conditions over the northern region, with similar patterns expected elsewhere.
For the south, NiMet projected sunny skies with cloud patches and isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rain over Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states later in the day.
On Tuesday, the northern and central regions are expected to experience sunny and hazy conditions, while the southern region may see morning thunderstorms with light rain in Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River. Later, thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Ondo, Ogun, Imo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa states.NiMet advised residents to take necessary precautions, particularly in areas prone to thunderstorms and strong winds.
