As Nigerians join the rest of the world for the forthcoming Valentine’s Day, a note of warning on personal safety has been issued, especially to ladies.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso issued the warning in an X post on Friday.
Valentine’s Day is celebrated every February 14 with the exchange of gifts, flowers, chocolates, romantic dinners, cards, and heartfelt messages between loved ones.
As this season of love approaches, the Borno State Police Command is urging caution, particularly among young women who may be approached by new or online acquaintances offering to send “Valentine gift”.

Why this is important:
A common tactic used by criminals is to pose as romantic interests or generous admirers, especially on social media or dating apps, to obtain residential addresses under the pretext of delivering flowers, chocolates, or other gifts.
Once they have the location, they can plan abductions, robberies, or other crimes.
