A team of Journalists from various media organisations in Bauchi, on Friday, was involved in a ghastly automobile crash while covering the commissioning of projects by the North-East Development Commission (NEDC).
The crash occurred in Yelwan Duguri when the vehicle that was conveying them veered off the road and tumbled several times, throwing the occupants out in the process.
Rescue operation by journalists was part of an NEDC delegation led by the Minister of State for Regional Development, Alhaji Uba Maigari Ahmadu, on a handover of some completed projects to the Bauchi state government.
The accident occurred on Friday along the Yashi-Yelwan Duguri Road in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State, shortly after the delegation commissioned and handed over a Government Secondary School (GSS) project in Yelwan Duguri.
Some of the Journalists were variously injured, with some of them having compound fractures, head injuries, and bruises. They were initially taken to Yelwan Duguri Cottage Hospital for emergency treatment before arrangements were made to transfer them to the Bauchi General Hospital for further medical attention.
The injured journalists are from Channels Television, AIT, NTA, Arise TV, and other members of the Correspondents’ Chapel, from various media houses covering the event.
Members of the delegation included the Minister of State for Regional Development, the Chairman and Managing Director of the Commission, the Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, and other government officials.
The State Deputy Governor, Rt Hon Auwal Jatau, led the NEDC management and board on a sympathy visit to the Cottage Hospital to see the injured and directed that they be moved to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) for more professional medical care. (TRIBUNE)
