The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Imo State Chapter, has expressed deep sorrow and concern the tragic killing of its Woman Leader of Amosu Umulolo Ward, Mrs. Esther Chimezie Ijeoma, and a party member, Mr. Ambrose Ndukwe – both indigenes of Okigwe Local Government Area – who were shot and killed on Friday, January 30, 2026.
The party said that “this heartbreaking incident represents yet another painful reminder of the persistent security challenges confronting Imo State.”
The party in a statement issued on Thursday by the State Publicity Secretary, Chief Macdonald Amadi, noted that, “the loss of innocent lives, regardless of political affiliation or background, strikes at the very heart of our shared humanity and calls for sober reflection by all stakeholders.”
It stated that the ADC believes that the foremost responsibility of any government is the protection of lives and property, adding that When citizens continue to fall victim to violent attacks, it raises serious concerns about the effectiveness, responsiveness, and prioritisation of public safety measures.
ADC noted that while they recognized that security challenges are complex, but demands proactive leadership, clear strategies, and unwavering commitment.
“In the interest of justice, peace, and public confidence, the ADC respectfully calls for the following actions; comprehensive, transparent investigation into the killings, with findings communicated to the public within a reasonable timeframe,” the statement said.
The party demanded the swift identification and prosecution of the perpetrators, in line with the rule of law, to serve justice and discourage future violence.
"The articulation and implementation of a clear, actionable, and people-centred security framework to address insecurity and prevent further loss of innocent lives.
"The ADC, Imo State Chapter, stands in full solidarity with the families, friends, and associates of the deceased during this moment of profound grief. We share in their pain and extend our heartfelt condolences.
"As a state with a rich history and resilient people, Imo must not become a place where violence is normalised or human life is taken lightly. This moment should awaken our collective conscience and renew our resolve to demand governance that prioritises security, justice, and the dignity of every citizen.
“May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may Imo State find the courage and leadership needed to restore lasting peace,” the statement concluded.
