A candidate vying for Awujale’s throne from Bubiade, Family of Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Barr. Adebowale Owolabi Olufeko, has urged the Ogun state government, the Chieftaincy Council, the Afobajes, and all relevant stakeholders to uphold tradition, transparency, and justice in the Awujale selection process.
Olufeko, a lawyer, Chartered Arbitrator, and Mediator, made this known while addressing journalists with other members of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, in Ijebu-Ode, noting that it was imperative to uphold due process, fairness, and sacred tradition in carrying out this historic duty.
“Indeed, we humbly appeal to your office concerning the ongoing process for the selection of the next Awujale of Ijebuland, this revered throne represents not only leadership but the soul, heritage, and identity of the Ijebu people,” Olufeko said.
He said that the people of Ijebuland were yearning for peace, unity, and continuity, urging the government to act justly and avoid any action that could ignite unnecessary tension or unrest among the Ijebu people.
Olufeko said: “Our objective is to examine the process, aggregate our views where necessary, and articulate our collective position with decorum, wisdom, and unity – always mindful of tradition, law, and respect for constituted authority.”
While commending the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun on the transfer of TASUED to a Federal University, Olufeko noted that a lot of infrastructural development is ongoing in the state, especially in Ijebu-Ode and its environs.
“We acknowledged and appreciated the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for steps taken so far in ensuring that the Fusengbuwa Ruling House produce the next Awujale of Ijebuland.
“We also expressed our gratitude to the Kingmakers on their efforts to see that due process is followed in the selection of Awujale of Ijebuland,” Olufeko said.
He said that all Fusengbuwa Ruling House respectively requested that the Kingmakers should be allowed to present Ijebu-Ode and Ijebuland with “Omo Oye,” noting that only one person would at the end emerge as “Omo Oye” to ascend the stool of Awujale of Ijebuland.
Olufeko appreciated the “Olori Ebis” of all the ruling houses, particularly the Head of Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Alhaji Lateef Owoyemi, for their roles, guidance, and sacrifices, saying that Alhaji Owoyemi had offered his fatherly role on the issue.
He further Imlored the federal government-led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the inclusion and development of the Ijebuland, saying that the federal government’s attention is really needed in the development of Ijebuland as a whole.
Other Ruling houses include Prince Habeeb Olawale Abdullah (Bubiade Ruling House), Prince Taiwo Oluyemi (Tunwase Ruling House), Prince Adewale Adesola (Isenyoruwa & Fusengbuwa Ruling House) and Prince Adewale Omotayo Mustapha A (Ajibike Jadiara Ruling House).
