Tragedy struck on Monday at the Jos North local government area of Plateau State when a 20-year old man identified as Ibrahim Mutari brutally killed his father’s 70-year-old stepmother.
Tribune Online learnt that the incident occurred at about 3:00 pm when the suspect broke into the 70-year-old woman’s room and descended heavily on her and ensured that she died before he fled.
The father of the deceased, Abubakar Shuibu, who claimed that his son committed the cruel act, added that he stabbed and strangled the woman before fleeing, adding that since then, both the police and local security men in the community have been looking for him.
Ummi Ahmed, one of the deceased daughters, states unequivocally that Mutari committed the heinous act, adding that he had previously promised vengeance following a quarrel between him and her younger brother, Musa, after he stabbed him with a knife last year.
She said, “Ibrahim and our younger brother, Musa, fought last year, and in the process, Musa stabbed him in the stomach. He was rushed to the hospital. While in the hospital, Ibrahim vowed to take revenge on either the deceased’s children or their mother, and today he’s actualised his threat.
“While in the hospital, the deceased was the one that took care of him. One of the nurses then told us that the utterances coming from Ibrahim were dangerous and frightening. The nurse stated that he vowed to take revenge either on the mother or her other children.”
A family source disclosed that the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Laranto Division and other security agents were at the deceased’s house on Tuesday for firsthand information about the incident.
Spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alfred Alabo, is yet to return the phone calls out to him over the incident. (TRIBUNE)
