The Ogun State Government has alerted motorists and residents in Abeokuta to road closures and traffic diversions ahead of the Cultural and Carnival/Float Parade scheduled for Thursday, as part of the state’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
The warning, issued on Monday by the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi, cited expected heavy human and vehicular traffic in the Central Business District during the parade.
TRACE said that compliance with the diversions is mandatory to ensure public safety and prevent gridlock.
Akinbiyi emphasised that the routes been blocked is to enable a thoroughfare for the Cultural and Carnival/Float Parade Motorcade Convoy, which will only last for about an hour.
“Nevertheless, operatives of TRACE, ditto other security and safety agencies would be at the different diversion and blocked routes to regulate and control traffic, ascertain orderliness, as well as ensure motorists adhere to lay down rules of engagement that guides safety and guarantee security.
“The motoring public are also admonished to be orderly and obey parking regulations and guidelines, while inside the MKO SPORTS ARENA, so as to avoid vehicles being clamped and sanctioned for traffic infraction(s),” he said.

TRACE stressed that the closures are temporary and intended solely to allow the carnival motorcade to pass safely.
