Governor Yusuf
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has condemned the unruly and dangerous conduct of some youths who unlawfully gained access to the Kano State Government House during the ceremony marking his reception into the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor expressed his displeasure during a stakeholders’ meeting involving APC leaders and senior government officials, describing the incident as disturbing, unacceptable, and capable of damaging Kano State’s long-standing reputation for peace, discipline, and order.
It will be recalled that hundreds of youths were reportedly sighted within the Government House premises during the event.
Eyewitnesses alleged that some of the youths, said to have accompanied a political figure, were carrying dangerous weapons, while others were openly abusing hard drugs.
Some were also reported to have chanted inflammatory slogans and called for the removal of the Deputy Governor.
At the stakeholders’ meeting, the governor’s Special Adviser, Muhammad Jamu, raised concerns over the development, describing the situation as dangerous and unacceptable.
He warned that allowing armed youths to attend political gatherings or government functions poses a serious threat to public safety and democratic order.
Jamu stressed that such conduct must not be tolerated under any circumstances, urging stakeholders to take proactive steps to prevent a recurrence.
Political observers have also expressed concerns over the possible political implications surrounding the incident, warning that any perceived association with individuals linked to violent activities could raise security concerns and deepen political tensions in the state.
Reiterating his administration’s stance, Governor Yusuf said his government would not tolerate violence, intimidation, drug abuse, or political hooliganism in any form.
He called on party leaders, security agencies, traditional rulers, parents, and community stakeholders to work together to curb the activities of unruly youths.
The governor also urged young people across Kano State to channel their energy into lawful and productive ventures that promote peace, unity, and sustainable development.
Governor Yusuf recently defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the APC, a move that has continued to generate political reactions across Kano State and beyond. (Nigerian Tribune)
