Nigeria has confirmed the presence of crude oil in the Awodi-07 exploration well located in the shallow offshore area of the western Niger Delta, following the successful completion of appraisal activities by a joint venture between the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) and Chevron Nigeria Limited.

In a statement, the partners disclosed that the appraisal confirmed a significant presence of hydrocarbons across multiple reservoir zones, underscoring the commercial potential of the discovery.

The Awodi-07 oil well was drilled and appraised in late November 2025, with operations concluded in mid-December 2025. According to the joint venture, all drilling and appraisal activities were executed in strict compliance with approved operational and regulatory standards.

NNPC Ltd’s Group Chief Executive Officer said the success recorded at Awodi-07 is consistent with the Federal Government’s broader strategy to increase crude oil production and strengthen national energy security.

The national oil company and its joint venture partner, Chevron Nigeria Limited, also affirmed their commitment to collaborate closely to mature the discovery and advance it towards timely development and monetisation, in line with Nigeria’s long-term energy objectives.

The Awodi-07 discovery adds to ongoing efforts to unlock new hydrocarbon resources in Nigeria’s offshore terrain and boost the country’s production outlook. (Arise News)
