Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau
The Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Alhaji Abdulmajid Danbilki, has warned that party loyalists may align with the Kwankwasiyya political movement in 2027 if the APC denies the governorship ticket to the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin.
Reacting to the recent resignation of Governor Abba Yusuf from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Danbilki said while the governor is welcome in the APC, any attempt to block Senator Barau’s governorship ambition would be strongly resisted.
He argued that APC founding members in Kano would not accept what he described as political sidelining, noting that Governor Yusuf would face stiff competition within the party if he seeks re-election.
Danbilki warned that denying Senator Barau the ticket could force party stakeholders to rally behind a Kwankwaso-backed candidate to challenge the governor in 2027.
According to him, Senator Barau has been a major financier and leader of the APC in Kano State, adding that party faithful would not allow “overnight entrants” to undermine years of sacrifice.
“I do not need to tell you how powerful Kwankwaso is in Kano politics. The masses are still with him, especially given recent developments involving Governor Yusuf,” he said.
He stressed that unless Senator Barau personally asks his supporters to step down, APC loyalists are ready to mobilise at the grassroots against any move perceived as unfair within the party. (AriseNews TV)
