Kano ADC chieftain Abdullahi Umar
Hon Abdullahi Umar, a grassroots powerhouse from Kano, and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), unleashed scathing criticism against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s APC administration during an encounter with newsmen in Abuja, today.
Hon. Umar, who is the National Coordinator of ADC National Alliance for Good Governance, accused the government of squandering $9 million on a US lobby firm to convince Trump and US government it’s actively working on the claim of “Christian genocide”, branding it a desperate bid for international sympathy amid domestic failures.
“This reckless expenditure of $9 million taxpayer dollars on foreign lobbyists is nothing short of daylight robbery,” Umar declared, his voice booming with indignation. As a steadfast ADC leader committed to accountable governance, he positioned the opposition party as the true guardian of Nigeria’s fiscal integrity, vowing to expose such excesses. The ADC, under Umar’s vocal advocacy, has emerged as a bulwark against APC's alleged culture of opacity, rallying grassroots support across the North.
Umar lambasted the APC’s move as a “smoke-and-mirrors distraction” from biting economic woes like soaring inflation and insecurity. “Tinubu’s handlers are burning our commonwealth to convince Trump of a phantom genocide, while Nigerians starve—where is the transparency in this shady deal?” he quizzed reporters. This lack of public disclosure on the contract raises red flags on accountability, potentially violating procurement laws and eroding public trust. Critics argue it exemplifies the APC’s pattern of secretive spending, from fuel subsidy scams, Tax laws scandal to unexplained loans.
The Implications for transparency are dire, as Umar warned. “Without open bidding or National Assembly approval, this $9 million vanishes into lobbyist pockets, leaving Nigerians in the dark about who benefits,” he asserted. Such actions fuel perceptions of elite capture, weakening democratic oversight and inviting corruption probes. The ADC chieftain’s outspoken stance burnishes his image as a fearless anti-corruption crusader, galvanizing opposition ranks against Tinubu’s “profligate regime.”
Hon. Umar also said, “the payment of $9 million taxpayers’ money, facilitated by Roger Stone, to some US lobby groups, including DCL, has hit a brick wall. Because, the effort has been thwarted by some, US Christian Evangelicals, who released a Multi-level Terror Tracker, a Mapped Infograph, documenting Killings of only Christians in Nigeria, for the past five years “.
In a rallying cry, Umar affirmed the ADC’s resolve: “We in the ADC will not sit idle while APC plunders our future—transparency or resignation for Tinubu!” His Kaduna remarks signal escalating opposition firepower, positioning the ADC as the viable alternative to APC’s “failed experiment.” As Nigeria grapples with economic headwinds, Umar’s broadside underscores the urgent need for fiscal prudence.
