Aloy Ejimakor, legal consultant to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has said many Igbos are deeply unhappy with Kanu’s conviction and could express their displeasure during the 2027 general elections.

Ejimakor issued the warning in a post on X, saying widespread resentment over Nnamdi Kanu’s life sentence remains strong among Igbos.

“I travelled around the entire South-East during this Christmas and New Year period and noticed that Ndigbo are very unhappy about the conviction of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“If it is not rectified urgently, they will surely make their feelings known in the 2027 elections. Even Google confirms it,” Ejimakor wrote.

Kanu was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2025 by the Federal High Court in Abuja after being found guilty of terrorism-related offences.

Justice James Omotosho, who delivered the judgment, stated that although the offences attracted the death penalty, the court chose to be lenient by imposing life imprisonment instead.

Kanu has been standing trial for nearly a decade over various charges, including treason and terrorism, arising from his agitation for the actualisation of Biafra. (Nigerian Tribune)
