Governor Caleb Mutfwang and Ex-Governor Jang in file photo
Former Plateau State governor, Dr Jonah Jang, has called on the people of the state to continue supporting Governor Caleb Mutfwang, as he on Monday dismissed reports claiming he had called for the governor’s resignation.
Jang, through his media aide, Comrade Clinton Garuba, said the former governor was misquoted and taken out of context during remarks he made at a recent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders’ meeting.
In a statement issued on Monday, Garuba described the reports circulating in parts of the media as misleading and inaccurate, stressing that Jang never asked Mutfwang to step down despite his reported defection from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The statement read:
“The attention of Senator Dr. Jonah David Jang has been drawn to a misleading report in some print and online media outlets. The report attempts to portray him as calling on Governor Caleb Mutfwang to resign following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“For clarity, Senator Jang’s remarks were quoted out of context. At no time during the PDP stakeholders’ meeting did he call for Governor Mutfwang’s resignation. Rather, he criticized politicians for leaving their parties to join others.
“The former governor therefore calls on the people of Plateau State to disregard the report and continue supporting Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who continues to lead the state under the people’s mandate.”
The clarification follows the dramatic swing of the leadership of the state from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC), bringing a consensus in political party leadership of the executive and legislative branches of government on the Plateau.
