TB Joshua named in witchcraft scandal

Frontline Nigerian cleric, Prophet TB Joshua, Founding Pastor of The Synagogue, Church of All Nations, is at the centre of a breaking witchcraft story involving Ghanaian international goalkeeper Richard Kingson and his wife Adelaide Tawiah.

The scandal started to unfold after Adelaide was showed on a programme broadcast by Joshua’s Emmanuel TV being allegedly exorcised of witchcraft.

In the programme, Adelaide is heard claiming that she used spiritual means to ruin Kingson’s career and to also make him impotent.

“I messed up Richard’s life ever since we got married. I used my evil powers to trouble his career,” she is heard saying. “I’ve been working on him spiritually, to the point he could not perform in bed.”

Reporting on the incident this morning, the British tabloid The Sun said: ‘Her confession came as a controversial TV preacher called TB Joshua was casting out the “evil spirit” that allegedly had a grip on her.’

The alleged confession has however attracted strong reactions from Kingson and Adelaide, who got married after the South Africa 2010 World Cup. Yesterday, Kingson declared on his Facebook page: “My wife is not a witch.”

Adelaide has also denied being a witch since the controversial broadcast was made last week. “I can’t even remember what took place,” she was quoted as saying. “I am not a witch as it has been rumoured. My husband knows how inspirational I have been to him throughout his goalkeeping career.”

The Lagos-based Temitope Balogun (TB for short) Joshua is well known for his widely televised healing programmes which many people however dismiss as fraudulent. Joshua is not recognised by either the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) or the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

Kingson, 34, has been without a club and has lost his place in the Black Stars, the Ghanaian senior national football team, since he was released by Blackpool of England last year. He had previously played in the top flight for Birmingham, Wigan and Blackpool and is the most capped player with the Black Stars of Ghana.
