Kabiru Tanimu Turaki SAN, PDP National Chairman
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that a new chapter of peace and reconciliation has begun within its ranks, signalling an end to months of internal discord.
The party’s Board of Trustees (BOT), often regarded as its conscience, announced that the PDP has entered a “New Era of Unity,” pledging its full support for the recently elected National Working Committee (NWC) led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN.
At a meeting attended by prominent party figures, including former Minister of Information, Professor Jerry Gana; former Kaduna State governor, Senator Ahmed Muhammed Makarfi, and former Enugu State governor, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, emphasised the urgency of consolidating the party’s unity.
“First, let me congratulate the PDP for the successful conduct of the National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State. The Convention is a clear demonstration of our Party’s enduring commitment to internal democracy and transparency,” Wabara said.
He went further to commend the new leadership team, declaring, “We declare our full support for the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee. From the early days of their tenure, it appears that our party is being repositioned, structures are being strengthened, and confidence is being restored across the federation. These are giant strides that give hope not just to party members, but to millions of Nigerians who look to the PDP as a credible alternative to the current state of affairs.”
While celebrating the successes of the newly elected NWC, Wabara stressed the need for reconciliation and healing within the party. “As we celebrate progress, we must also embrace unity. This is the moment that calls for reconciliation and healing,” he said.
Responding to the endorsement, PDP National Chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki thanked the BoT for its support and urged all party members to work collaboratively toward stability and growth. “We have had a lot of ups and downs. We fought ourselves and we fought each other. Other people fought us from within and from without. Now, it is time for peace. And one of the cardinal principles that we intend to pursue in our leadership is the issue of reconciliation,” Turaki stated.
He further emphasised the importance of collective commitment among party members, saying, “We believe that there is no dispute, no disagreement, and no misunderstanding, that is irreconcilable, provided there is a common objective and common will.” (LEADERSHIP)
