Fresh bandit attacks in Kano border communities leave seven residents abducted, heightening fear across multiple local government areas.
Fear has gripped several communities in Kano State following fresh attacks by bandits and kidnappers in Zurin Mahauta village, Gwarzo Local Government Area, close to the Katsina State border.
The assailants, who reportedly arrived in large numbers on motorcycles late Sunday night, stormed the village firing sporadically before abducting seven residents.
Local radio reports indicated that the attackers operated swiftly and confidently, overwhelming the community before fleeing with their victims to an undisclosed location.
Confirming the incident, the Village Head of Zurin Mahauta, Mai Unguwa Murtala, described the attack as shocking and deeply unsettling for residents.
He said security operatives responded promptly to distress calls and arrived at the scene in time to prevent further casualties and escalation.
According to him, security agencies have since launched a manhunt for the attackers, assuring residents that efforts are ongoing to rescue the abducted victims and restore calm to the area.
The latest attack comes barely a week after a similar incident in the Lakwaya area of Gwarzo, where suspected bandits from the Katsina border raided the village, killing one person and abducting Alhaji Yakubu of Tsohuwa Kururawa.
The renewed violence has heightened fear and anxiety across seven Kano local government areas bordering Katsina State — Gari, Tsanyawa, Bagwai, Shanono, Gwarzo, Karaye and Rogo.
As of press time, there was no official statement from security agencies regarding the latest attack. (AriseNews TV)
