Rivers APC Chairman, Tony Okocha, presenting Governor Fubara of Rivers State with his membership ca
The crisis within the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has deepened as the party’s spokesperson, Darlington Nwauju, criticised the registration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara by what he describes as an “illegal working committee.”
In a statement issued on December 12, 2025, Nwauju said the move to register the governor under the disputed faction of the APC amounted to a direct assault on the rule of law and a brazen ridicule of the judiciary.
According to him, every attempt to revive the faction—whose congresses were “rightfully castrated” by two separate court judgments—only reinforces the party’s internal crisis and exposes what he calls a dangerous disregard for legal order
He referenced the August 12, 2024, judgment by Justice Sika Aprioku and the December 20, 2024, ruling by Justice Godswill Obomanu, both of which nullified the congress that purportedly produced the group that registered Governor Fubara.
Nwauju questioned the legitimacy of the entire exercise.
“Does running to Government House to register Governor Sim Fubara in order to validate his group set aside the judgments that nullified the congress that produced them? The answer is a resounding NO,” he said.
Calling the move illegal and provocative, the spokesperson warned that the so-called registration could trigger fresh litigation within the party.
He insisted that the APC in Rivers State could not afford another round of court battles caused by actions he believes are both illegitimate and reckless.
“They must stop creating room for further litigation within the APC in Rivers State because the so-called registration done by an illegal entity can be challenged in court,” he added.
With tensions already high across political blocs in the state, this latest outburst signals that the Rivers APC may once again be heading toward turbulent waters—raising questions about unity, legality, and the uncertain future of the party in the state.
Fubara formally registered as a member of the APC on Friday after receiving his party membership card at Government House, Port Harcourt.
The Rivers State APC Chairman, Tony Okocha, who represented the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, presented the card to the governor.
Fubara said his decision to join the APC was aimed at promoting unity and development in Rivers State. (Channels TV)
