SWAN members during the medical outreach
By PAMELA EBOH, Awka
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra chapter, on Thursday held a medical outreach for journalists in Awka to kickstart it’s end of year programme.
The outreach which was held at Rock Hospital Awka hosted about 50 journalists who were given random medical health check sponsored by the Chief Medical Director, CMD, of the hospital, Dr.Chukwudi Njelita.
The random tests include, Blood Pressure, Pulse Rate, Oxygen Saturation Level and Sugar Level.
Addressing journalists at the event, Njelita said the gesture was an expression of solidarity and his love for the Pen profession, especially Sports Journalists, adding that the Chairman, Chimezie Anaso has been his long time acquaintance.
He stressed that the hospital was excited to host SWAN as it kicks off the two days programme to mark the 2025 Week.
The CMD said, “I am pleased to identify with SWAN. I love identifying with journalists. Your Chairman has been a long time friend of mine and when he told me about programme, I told him I will like to be part of it anyway possible.
“I urge you to always prioritise your health as you pursue your professional duties. Health is wealth.”
In his speech, the immediate past Commissioner for Information, Chief Paul Nwosu, said that he decided to take part in the medical outreach because he remains a journalist after office.
He hailed the Dr. Njelita for his service to humanity through quality healthcare delivery, saying that media are open for future collaborations with the medical facility.
Nwosu said: “Even though I’m not a member of SWAN, I am a journalist, a reporter for that matter. That is why I am here to show solidarity.”
The SWAN Chairman, Chimezie Anaso, in his remarks appreciated the members of the association for turning out for the exercise.
He urged them to grace the lecture and recognition event scheduled Friday evening for the deserving sports personalities which is part of the two days programme.
Anaso further extended thanks to the management of Rock Foundation Hospital for their warm reception and support towards SWAN end-of-year event.
