A clash between members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Otan-Ayegbaju, Boluwaduro Local Government Area, has left three individuals with varying degrees of injuries.

Adetunji Mosebolatan, president of the Otan-Ayegbaju Progressive Union (OAPU), condemned the violence in a statement on Sunday, urging politicians to maintain peace within the community.

“My attention has been drawn to an unfortunate upheaval which resulted in political unrest between the two parties on December 5, 2025,” he stated. “Enough of this senseless destruction; we are not the only town in this community, and we must allow peace and tranquillity to reign for our social, economic, and political development.”

Mosebolatan criticised the historical trend of bitter politics in Otan, highlighting its detrimental effects on the community’s growth. “We generate fear and animosity among ourselves, which has not produced any positive outcomes over the years,” he noted.He stressed that other towns and villages in the area are making steady progress and enjoying the benefits of democracy, regardless of political affiliation. “It’s high time we reflect on our actions to ensure we do not miss out on collective opportunities,” he urged.

Mosebolatan called on residents to foster peace and harmony despite political differences and urged political leaders to act swiftly in response to crises to prevent further escalation.

Findings showed that the trouble began on social media, fuelled by jests related to a Supreme Court judgment dismissing a lawsuit filed by the Attorney General of Osun against the Attorney General of the Federation. An aide to Governor Ademola Adeleke allegedly made comments that provoked APC member Adetunji Kazeem.

It was reported that the aide had previously directed aggressive remarks towards Kazeem on social media and later apologised. Tensions escalated when the aide and others confronted Kazeem’s wife, resulting in her being assaulted and her property damaged.

The incident culminated in an attack on her, causing injuries that led her to file a formal report at the police station. The governor’s aide reportedly submitted a counter-report only after learning of her complaint.

Screenshots of the online exchanges, along with images documenting her injuries and the damage to her phone, are said to accompany the reports.

Community members called on authorities for a thorough and impartial investigation to establish the facts and ensure that justice is served.(The Sun)
