President Tinubu playing host to immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Christopher Musa
Following the immediate resignation of the Minister of Defence, Abubakar Badaru, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has put necessary machinery in motion to name a replacement.
A competent Presidency source told our Correspondent in early of Tuesday in Abuja that President Tinubu may likely pick the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, Gen Christopher Musa (retd) as replacement, going by his wealth of experience as the former CDS was said to have been summoned to the Presidential Villa for a closed-door meeting late Monday night.
Amidst growing security concerns in the country, the Presidency announced Minister of Defence Abubakar Badaru has tendered his resignation letter with an immediate effect on Monday night citing health grounds.
According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, President Tinubu has graciously accepted the resignation letter. However, our source confirmed that the President has commenced shopping for a replacement so as not to create a vacuum with former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa (retd) as possible choice.
Meanwhile, the former CDS, General Christopher Musa (retd), earlier on Monday met with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The former CDS, who was recently relieved of his position in a major military shake-up, arrived at the State House at about 7:03 p.m. and was led into the President’s office area by a senior security official. (Nigerian Tribune, but headline rejigged)
