It was a thrilling day two match at the ongoing Edo State Football League which kicked off on Saturday, September 14, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, as one of the favourite teams J.J Stars, beat Foundation FC 4-2 to advance to the next round of the competition.
In a match which revealed some exciting youth talents, Nosa Ovenseri shone brightly and stole the show with a hat trick for J.J Stars who came back from a 1-2 deficit in the first half to send Foundation FC to the cleaners.
Ovenseri showed remarkable composure and maturity throughout the game, as his movement on and off the ball was too much for opposing defenders to handle. His first goal was a quick shot from a cross which caught Foundation’s goalkeeper napping. His second was from a simple tap-in.
With scores standing at 3-2 in favour of J.J Stars, Foundation pushed for an equaliser in the dying moments of the game. However, they were made to pay for committing too many players, as Ovenseri received a pass close to the centre line and ran the full lenght of Foundation’s half to slot home and put the tie to rest.
Matches continue in the competition organised by the Edo State Football Association, with giants and defending champions BJ FC, being a seeded side, waiting to see who they play in the advanced stage.
