Southern governors defecting to APC won’t save party from defeat in 2027, says Akuma

ADC chieftain Akuma

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nelson Ahamefula Akuma, has said that the governors in the southern part of Nigeria are defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would not save the party from defeat in 2027.

Speaking while reacting to the defection of governors Peter Mbah of Anambra State and Douye Diri of Bayelsa State, he said that 2027 general election is not going to be a fight of the governors, but rather a contest between suffering Nigerian people and the ruling party.

He said that APC is believing the illusion that having all the governors in their party would give them victory.

Akuma, however, said that it is clear to the Nigerian people that it is selfishness and not the good of the people that is causing the defection.

Akuma cited the performance of the Labour Party Presidential Candidate in the 2023, Mr. Peter Obi, as evidence that governors would not be a factor in the 2027 presidential election.

He said that in 2023, Labour Party did not even have an elected political office holder but Peter Obi ended up almost winning the election.

According to him, the governors are just on their own, adding that they are not in control of the people.

Akuma’s words: “APC is having the illusion that the 2027 presidential election is already in their kitty because of the political office holders they are coercing to join the party. But I want to let them know that they would be shocked in 2027.Nigerian masses are ready for them. They are still thinking that power flows from the governors, senators and other elected or appointed political office holders. But they don’t know that Nigerians have moved on.”

According to him, 2027 elections would be a referendum on the political office holders.

He said that all those who betrayed their people by defecting to other political parties would be on ballot trial.

Speaking further, he said that all Nigerians need to do is get their voters card and also vote in the election, adding that a people united can never be defeated.
