The President also tasked Nigerians to embrace attitudinal change both in their public and private life.
According to him, “We are under no illusion that the change we seek can happen overnight. Therefore, I appeal for all to be part of this.”
Speaking at the event held in the Presidential Banquet Hall, Aso Villa, on Thursday morning, Buhari enjoined citizens to “shun reckless behavior and work to promote values of hard work, discipline and good neighbourliness.”
He added that “if you cannot see the change in you, definitely you cannot see it on others, even the larger society.”
The President lamented that Nigeria’s commonwealth has been stolen by a few individuals, which he said, has contributed to the failure in our value system, led to insurgency, pipeline vandalism, kidnapping, militancy and all sort of vices.”
Also speaking at the event, Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) Garba Abari, remarked that “beyond the change Mantra of President Buhari-led government, Nigerians must all exhibit character devoid of acts that throw clog in the wheel of progress.”
He, however, promised that the campaign would be leveraged upon unbeatable spread across Nigeria to take it to all levels of government.
He added that “we must all support this initiative to bring about the Nigeria we all yearn for, as well as for the intended purpose to be achieved.”
“We will also engage Nigerians on #ChangeBeginsWithMe campaign via both electronic, print and social media,” he added.
President Buhari while concluding his speech, commended the NOA, for conceiving the campaign.
