Police nabs 27 suspected cultists, 3 goat thieves in Delta

Determined to make Delta State cult free, the newly established Anti-cult Unit of the state police command yesterday arrested twenty-seven suspected cultists at different points across the state. Investigations reveal that two cult groups, Eiye and Ake confraternities had over the years held the state to ransom and have killed several persons during clashes with rival groups.

Mr. Ibrahim Dana Zumi, head of the Anti-cult unit, confirmed that the suspects were arrested on a tip-off, adding that the unit officers recovered several guns and knives from them and when interrogated, made useful statements. Adding that investigation was still on going, Zumi said the unit has declared total war against cultism in the state and warned those still involved to relocate or face their wrath.

Identified flash points include: Ogbesowe, Ogbeke Square in Asaba, Ibusa, Okpanam, Ughelli, Abraka, Kwale and Obiaruku.

Meanwhile, the police in Ibusa community have arrested three men for stealing three goats belonging to a widow in the community. It was gathered that the suspects are meat sellers at the popular Ibusa market and were arrestedThursdaynight by the police. The suspects’ names were given as: John Akpore, Felix Morh and Kelvinson Agodede.

In another development, Ibusa community wason Thursdaynight, thrown into palpable fear following the discovery of the corpse of a middle-aged man in the bush close to the community’s river. It was gathered that the murder is not unconnected with cult-related activities that have been plaguing the community recently. The police spokesperson of the state, Mrs. Celestina Kalu confirmed the incident and said investigations were still ongoing. (The Guardian)
