IGP Egbetokun flanked by DEPOWA delegates and other high-ranking police officers
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has said children of deceased officers will benefit from a new scholarship initiative beginning from September next year.
The programme, introduced by the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), aims to support families of fallen personnel while fostering national unity.
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, received the delegation of DEPOWA members during a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters in Abuja yesterday.
He described the scheme as a vital intervention for families who lost loved ones in service.
Leading the delegation, DEPOWA President, Mrs. Oghogho Musa, explained that the project would commence with the commissioning of the DEPOWA Future Leaders Academy, scheduled for September 2026.
According to her, the scholarship would prioritize; “children of fallen heroes and also bolster national cohesion by admitting children from surrounding communities.”
In a statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Benjamin Hundeyin, quoted Musa as stressing that the initiative sought to ease the emotional and economic burdens borne by families of officers who died in the line of duty.
She further commended police officers for their sacrifices in fighting violent crimes and contributing to international peacekeeping efforts.
Egbetokun reaffirmed the NPF’s constitutional responsibility to safeguard lives and property, maintain order, and protect democracy. (The Nation)
