Abdulmumin Kofa, expelled NNPP federal lawmaker
The Kano State Chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has expelled Alhaji Abdulmumin Kofa, a federal lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji constituency, following his outbursts that he might defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The NNPP’s state chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, revealed to journalists on Saturday that Kofas’s expulsion was due to his persistent public attacks on the party and its leaders.
He cited other reasons for Jibrin’s expulsion, including non-performance and his failure to pay party dues, which compelled the party to pursue legal means to recover all the debt from him.
The lawmaker’s expulsion came few days after he threatened to defect from NNPP to APC or another party, declaring that he was old enough to take any decision for himself.
In a recent interview, Kofa stated: “Nothing is impossible. I can remain in NNPP, I can go back to APC, and I can join ADC or PDP or even PRP. I can go to wherever I like. Any time I decide, I will make my position known.”
Responding to Kofa, the NNPP chairman said such a move would not affect NNPP’s strength; “politics is about groups and coalitions” and Kwankwasiyya remains solidly behind its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The lawmaker reminded the party that “Even NNPP itself said it is open to negotiations with other parties, and it is not necessary that I follow the direction of the party. I am old enough to take a stand on what is best for me,” Kofa asserted
The NNPP chairman maintained that, “Instead of dialogue, he went further to work against our interest, openly declaring loyalty outside the party. That is why we expelled him. He has no value to add.” (AriseNews TV)
